Nominations are accepted from the public May 1st - June 30th via online form or mailed hard copy. Both will be available on this page as of May 1st.
Honorees and their nominators will be notified in late July, publicly announced in September and celebrated at a gala event in October.
Nominees must be living and may not be a History Center staff or Board member. Nominees may be an individual or an organization and will be asked to appear in publicity.
Nominators are encouraged to submit thoughtful, thorough applications that specify how the nominee is making a difference in one of the following categories.
• Promoting Stronger Communities
• Encouraging Regional Collaboration
• Creating Quality Educational Opportunities
• Promoting Social Justice
• Demonstrating Innovative Solutions
The History Makers program is not about number of votes. The quality and depth of the application factor more prominently than the number of nominations for a particular nominee. We encourage one nominator to gather letters of support and other documentation into one comprehensive nomination package. The Selection Committee judges each nominee solely on the information and opinions provided in the application. No additional research is performed. We typically receive 75 -100 nominations each year.
